GardenSpace is a Smart Robot-gardener that will water and protect your precious plants from pests

Gardening can take a lot of time and work. For some people who enjoy tending to their plants, the whole point is simply in doing it. If you’re a person who likes to spend time in your lovely garden, the GardenSpace robot is not needed – you yourself are able to water your plants in time and protect them from any nasty pests. As for the rest of you, this autonomous smart gardening system, running on solar energy, can come in handy.

GardenSpace is a smart robotic camera designed to automatically monitor, water and protect your plants from any hostile pests or animals. The team that came up with this innovative gardening solution is the Australian startup GardenSpace located in Canberra, Australia.

GardenSpace connects to the water supply system in your backyard and to your household Wi-Fi network. Powered by a built-in battery that is constantly charged by an onboard solar panel, Garden Spaces is here to take care of your garden. Being solar powered, you never have to worry about plugging the GardenSpace into an electrical outlet or changing its batteries. Plus, the robot gardener is great for the environment too.

Before you start working, you need to explain the app where and what plants you’ve planted in your garden (and if the garden does not already exist, you can create one using the app’s recommendations). The handy app acts as your personal garden command center. Then the app develops a watering schedule, coordinating it with the changing weather conditions. Using the camera on a 360-degree rotating rod, the gadget monitors all of your plants 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, analyzing the state of their leaves with a thermal sensor that determines if they need some extra water.

Once the smart robot notices that your plants are beginning to dry out or the specified time for watering is due, the watering machine located behind the chamber is turned on. The nozzle of the robot shoots a stream of water which reportedly can reach plants at 8 feet distance at the average tap water pressure.

In addition, GardenSpace uses motion sensors to track pests approaching your garden that may damage your tender plants. The smart robot gets rids of them in the same harmless way - by shooting a stream of water. A rabbit or a bird will get frightened and flee, New Atlas asserts.

The inventors of the robotic gardener launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. Now you can pre-ordered the GardenSpace smart robot gardener for an early-bird price of $ 229. The planned retail price, if the project is brought to life, will be $399. By now, the Aussie team behind this project has pledged $19,306 of the $25,000 goal. Once the series production is set into motion, the delivery will be scheduled for October 2018.

As for the urban dwellers who are unable or simply don’t have the time to plant plants in their own garden, there is a simple and compact solution. The Barcelona-based startup Aquapioneers Ecosystem offers to download drawings and independently 3D print your own aquaponic farm in your kitchen. In this aquaponics farm, plants purify the water in the aquarium, and fish provide fertilizers for plants. Seems like a cool idea, right? Let’s hear what the gardening enthusiasts have to say about this.
