Mark Zuckerberg introduced the standalone VR-headset Oculus Go for $199

Despite the fact that Facebook has faced serious legal problems in the recent past due to the acquisition of Oculus VR, Mark Zuckerberg does not intend to give up and is still planning to make virtual reality incredibly popular. Over time, the head of Facebook plans to expand the audience of fans of this technology to (!!!) one billion users. And it will be the easiest way to do this, releasing a quality, but at the same time inexpensive VR-helmet, which will become the Oculus Go.

Oculus is the leader in the modern virtual reality market with Oculus Rift and Gear VR devices. At the same time, its developers continue to work on a truly standalone headset. Earlier the company announced a number of developments in this direction, and now they presented the first model, called Oculus Go.

Oculus Go is a completely standalone device that does not require a connection to a computer, a game console or a powerful large-screen smartphone. The headset of capable of working by itself, without any unnecessary cables and external sensors tracking the user’s movements. The VR headset is incredibly lightweight, equipped with elastic straps for attachment to your head, and outside is covered with a breathable cloth. It uses special new generation Fresnel lenses that can save users from the screen-door effect, because of which dark spaces between pixels are visible.

The resolution of the built-in headset LCD-display is 2560 by 1440 pixels. For comparison: with the Oculus Rift, the resolution is 2160 by 1200 pixels. The headset has a built-in 3.5mm audio jack, where you can plug in your headphones. The device is also equipped with built-in loudspeakers in case you do not have your own headphones. The sound is voluminous, so you can understand on which side of you is located the source of the sound in the virtual space.

In conjunction with Oculus Go comes one motion controller, codenamed Santa Cruz. The movements of the Santa Cruz controller are tracked without any external cameras, and, judging by the first demonstrations, the accuracy of its positioning is at an altitude. The headset will be compatible with the games library for Samsung Gear VR, as well as with the software produced by Oculus and Facebook. Speaking of the video games library in the Oculus Rift - here you already need a more expensive model of the headset and a powerful PC. With the help of Oculus Go, you can play exclusively in unpretentious mobile VR-games, watch VR-video and communicate with your friends in virtual space.

Without a doubt, this will be the most affordable device for acquaintance with virtual reality. Judge for yourself: for the Oculus Go, you only need to pay 199 dollars! Yes, for the headset Gear VR the manufacturer asks only 99, but do not forget that you will need to purchase a powerful smartphone and for $500. While for the Oculus Go, you only need to pay two hundred and enjoy life. Although Facebook does not say anything about the iron stuffing of the device and the duration of its battery life. The sale of Oculus Go should start in the first few months of 2018.

According to the general director of the company Mark Zuckerberg, due to its price of $ 199 it will become the most affordable VR headset on the market. The premium Oculus Rift headset, complete with motion tracking camera and two Touchpads, will cost 399 dollars as of October 11. Below you can also see the video from the Facebook presentation announcing the new Oculus Dash application, with which users can interact with their computer.
